DC Ferguson

On November 24th, 2014, a grand jury released the long-awaited decision that police officer Darren Wilson would not be indicted in the case concerning the death of Michael Brown. It sparked protests around the country. 

The decision and reactions that followed are part of a broader movement, one that calls into question issues of institutional racism and police brutality. Ferguson became the rallying cry of justice that is bound up in the Black Lives Matter movement.

The following photos document a single night of political demonstration in Washington DC to protest the Michael Brown decision. In the capital, the heart of American democracy, hundreds of voices demanded to be heard as a crowd marched from the White House to the Capitol to the Supreme Court, touching every branch of government.
